Information sharing systems and teamwork between sub-teams: a mathematical modeling perspective
Authors
Abstract:
Teamwork contributes to a considerable improvement in quality and quantity of the ultimate outcome. Collaboration and alliance between team members bring a substantial progress for any business. However, it is imperative to acquire an appropriate team since many factors must be considered in this regard. Team size may represent the effectiveness of a team and it is of paramount importance to determine what the ideal team size exactly should be. In addition, information technology increasingly plays a differentiating role in productivity and adopting appropriate information sharing systems may contribute to improvement in efficiency especially in competitive markets when there are numerous producers that compete with each other. The significance of transmitting information to individuals is inevitable to assure an improvement in team performance. In this paper, a model of teamwork and its organizational structure are presented. Furthermore, a mathematical model is proposed in order to characterize a group of sub-teams according to two criteria: team size and information technology. The effect of information technology on performance of team and sub-teams as well as optimum size of those team and sub-teams from a productivity perspective are studied. Moreover, a quantitative sensitivity analysis is presented in order to analyze the interaction between these two factors through a sharing system.

Assessing Collaboration Within and Between Teams: A Multiteam Systems Perspective
Developing assessment methods that capture an individual’s capability to collaborate can look to the team and multiteam systems literature, which identifies six critical components of collaboration. These six include team affect/motivation, team interaction processes, and team cognition, as well as corresponding constructs at the system level, multiteam affect/motivation, between-team interacti...

We report results from a longitudinal study of information systems development (ISD) teams. We use data drawn from 60 ISD teams at 22 sites of 15 Fortune 500 organizations to explore variations in performance relative to these teams’ social interactions. To do this, we characterize ISD as a form of new product development and focus on team-level social interactions with external stakeholders. D...
full textTeams and teamwork during a cancer diagnosis: interdependency within and between teams.
This article discusses the care process among three groups (primary care, radiology, and surgery) aiding a 57-year-old woman during her screening mammography and diagnosis of breast cancer. This is the first in a series of articles exploring principles and topics relevant to teams guiding clinicians involved in cancer care. The challenges demonstrated in this case illustrate how clinicians work...
full textKnowledge Sharing in Information Systems Development: A Social Interdependence Perspective
As organizations increasingly rely on information systems (IS) for strategic and operational purposes, information systems development (ISD) has become an important organizational activity. ISD involves the analysis, design, and implementation of information technology (IT) systems and applications to support business functions (Xia and Lee, 2005). It is typically a knowledge-intensive process ...

E ective communication among agents in large teams is crucial because the members share a common goal but only have a partial views of the environment. Information sharing is di cult in a large team because, a team member may have a piece of valuable information but not know who needs the information, since it is infeasible to know what each other agent is doing. Although much related work has ...
